...but not the one I started. Anyone reading this blog (assuming that anyone anywhere actually does read this blog) knows that for the past year I've been promising the third installment of Tales from the Green, the always "almost finished" Tainted Sliver. Well, it turns out the problem was that Tainted Sliver was not book three of the series. One would think that I, as the author, would have known that, but it took me until last month to realize that I had actually written another story entirely. Once I stopped trying to wedge the Tainted Sliver's plot points into a story that stood on its own merits things got much simpler. I know now never to title a book before I even start writing it, and I especially know not to promote a book until I have it ready.
In other words, I wrote this story so I could tell you the one I meant to write later. Tales from the Green Book 3: Spider's Web is the result of almost two years worth of revisions and fine tuning to flesh out the world of the Green set up the eventual conclusion to the Ssvalith story arc. After this Tainted Sliver will pick up where Book 3 ends and a fifth installment should round out the series without rushing the plot or leaving out bits I wanted to keep.
Unlike previous ill conceived posts I have made where The Tainted Sliver was always "almost finished," Spider's Web lies complete cover to cover, and were I the eager but inexperienced indie author I was when I released Magic Flute onto Amazon (poorly formatted with no cover, ugh) I may have been inclined to give it one more read through and put it out next week. The years have tempered my recklessness, somewhat, though. I will not release this book until I have a cover and blurb ready to go, and of course what book couldn't stand a few more reads for grammar, continuity, and spelling before hitting the market. For the sake of quality I will aim for a January 2012 release. Stay tuned for more updates as things hopefully fall into place through December.
